A couple of days ago one of my coaching clients told me he did not have a good feeling about something he was considering doing. He added that he wanted to trust that feeling, because he had ignored his gut in some major decisions he made the past two years and has deeply regretted that. In fact, he has suffered considerably as a result of ignoring his intuition.
Sound familiar? Haven't we all done just that - allowed fear to take over, drowning out the quiet voice of intuition? I just read a quote that referred to that experience as fear trumping intuition.
Intuitive messages come through in several different ways. In this post I'll focus on how intuition comes through your body.
When something feels right intuitively, your body will resonate with energy in some fashion. You may feel a tingling, or goosebumps. Or you may feel a serene sense of peacefulness. Your body finds some way to communicate "yes" to you, and your job is to recognize how your body speaks to you. When something is "right" for you, your body signals agreement through a sense of physical well-being. When I decided to start a blog in October, I felt an exhilarating sense of energy and joy.
When something is not right for you, your body signals that too. It may be a queasy feeling in the pit of your stomach. Perhaps some part of your body constricts or tightens up. Five years ago, while visiting colleges with my firstborn daughter, I felt a sudden physical constriction all through my body. I felt "closed in," even though logic told me this was a highly ranked college. My intuition told me that my daughter would not be able to grow and thrive here. She chose another college where she excelled and went on to graduate from.
The feeling in your body can also be very subtle, like the tender pressure I feel in my heart when I think about my daughter getting back together with her ex-boyfriend. Something about that feels "off." Here's another one - when your body is not in agreement with your head, it may resist by forcing you to drag yourself around to do something. The energy feels non-existent when you attempt to carry through with something your intuition is in disagreement with.
Our minds will work hard to "protect" us with logic and fear. Pay attention to intuition - that channel of information that comes from another place of knowing. Act upon messages that persist, especially when you get confirming messages through your body.
