I'm attending a 5-day business seminar in Orlando. I consider it cruel and unusual punishment that the seminar company chose this sunny city and then scheduled us to be inside from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm each day. What is wrong with this picture? Fortunately I did tack on a play day at the end of the week to go visit Mickey before heading back home.
Unless I decide to give up sleep (not planning on it), blogging will have to wait a few days. Before signing off, I'll mention that I decided to use a Blockbuster coupon that was due to expire and got a free rental on an old release leaving on my trip. I picked out "Waiting to Exhale," which I remember seeing and liking 10 years ago.
I wouldn't call the movie a "chick flick," even though it focuses on women and the male characters aren't too likeable (with the exception of Gregory Hines character, who likes his women pleasingly plump.). The movie holds up well because the emotions are real, and there are no sugar coated answers. The lead characters all make mistakes (as we all do) but find the grace and dignity to move on with their lives. Fellows - halfway through the movie, my husband exclaims "This is a GOOD movie!" And so it is.
(And when I meet with my college roommates in a couple of weeks for our annual reunion, my husband will return to the video store and OD on action videos to make up for lost time while I'm gone.)
